Parents as Partners
SJS parents and families play a vital role in partnering with their child's teacher and the school to enhance their child's learning. By actively engaging in their child's education, SJS parents and families help to create a collaborative and supportive environment that fosters academic success and personal growth.
Communication is key in establishing a strong partnership between parents and teachers. Parents and families are encouraged to maintain open lines of communication with their child's teacher, attending parent-teacher conferences, and initiating regular check-ins to discuss their child's progress. By staying informed about their child's academic strengths and areas for improvement, parents can work in tandem with the teacher to address any challenges and reinforce learning at home.
Supporting learning at home is another critical way SJS parents enhance their child's education. This involves creating a consistent routine at home, ensuring that children eat healthy, balanced diets, and get sufficient amounts of sleep. SJS families can also encourage reading at home by setting aside dedicated time for reading together and discussing books. Additionally, engaging in educational activities and games that align with classroom lessons can reinforce key concepts and make learning enjoyable for the child.
Volunteering and participating in SJS school activities demonstrates a strong commitment to a child's education. SJS families can offer their time and skills to assist in classroom activities, field trips, or school events, such as our annual Fun Days. By actively participating in the school community, SJS parents show their support for their child's learning and build relationships with teachers and staff.
SJS families stay informed and up to date. The school sends out weekly newsletters related to events and the curriculum, and it is important for families to regularly read these important messages. By staying informed about the curriculum, standards, and policies, parents will better understand their child’s learning, SJS’s values, and our approaches to teaching and learning.

PTA (Parent Teacher Association)
At SJS we are very well supported by our parents. We have a very active PTA that runs many events across the school and brings the community together regularly for activities such as our Annual Fun Day, Chinese New Year, outings and trips, workshops and coffee mornings. As well as offering clubs for students.
