We are one of 22 schools operated by the English Schools Foundation (ESF), the largest provider of English-medium international education in Hong Kong.

Our vision is for every child to be the best that they can be

Established in 1988, Sha Tin Junior School (SJS) has built a commendable reputation over the years. Throughout its history, the school has had the privilege of being led by only four principals, with the current principal, Dr. Rehana Shanks, assuming the role since August 2019. This continuity in leadership speaks to the stability and commitment of the school.

SJS was the first ESF primary school to be a fully authorised International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in May 2009. We had our most recent IB Evaluation in November 2023. Click here to see the full report.

Our IB Evaluation Concluding comments -

“Sha Tin Junior School (SJS) is a dynamic and inclusive community that demonstrates a strong commitment to the principles of an IB education and holistic development of students. SJS focuses on nurturing the whole child and actively supports students across the breadth of education.

During the period under review, the school had a number of achievements, including providing various opportunities for teacher and student agency, implementation of Global Goals Award Scheme, and increased student engagement. The other school achievements include strong collaboration with various organisations, provision of learning support and outdoor play opportunities, and active involvement of parents in learning and teaching.

SJS is committed to continuous improvement of programme implementation and ensuring all learners become the best they can be. The governance and leadership teams work well with staff, students, and families in providing a high-quality programme that supports and addresses the interests and passions of students, develop their leadership skills, and honour their voice in shaping their learning experiences. Respectful relationships, development of learner agency, and excellence in performance are valued and modelled by members of SJS learning Community.”
