Outdoor Learning

SJS is surrounded by incredible natural resources. Walks in the school neighbourhood and natural environment offer a unique opportunity for students to connect with the world around them and develop a sense of appreciation for nature. Exploring their immediate surroundings allows students to observe and understand the local flora, fauna, and ecosystems. It encourages them to think critically about environmental issues, sustainability, and their role in preserving the natural world. These walks also promote physical activity, stimulate creativity, and enhance cognitive abilities by providing a change of scenery and a break from the classroom routine.

Field trips to local museums and galleries enrich the learning experience by exposing students to art, culture, history, and scientific discoveries. These visits provide a tangible context for the subjects they learn in class, making the material more relatable and memorable. Museums and galleries offer a wealth of information and artefacts that bring lessons to life, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of various disciplines. Students can engage in interactive exhibits, witness historical artefacts firsthand, and appreciate the beauty and diversity of artistic expression. Field trips also encourage students to broaden their perspectives, appreciate different cultures, and develop a lifelong love for learning.

At SJS, students in Years 4-6 also have camp experiences. Attending camps as part of the school experience is crucial for students' development and education. Camps offer hands-on learning, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of concepts. They promote personal growth, resilience, and problem-solving skills, empowering students to step out of their comfort zones. Camps also enhance social interaction, cultural exchange, and the development of interpersonal skills. By participating in camps, students gain practical knowledge, build self-confidence, and create lasting memories that contribute to their overall educational journey.
